Indian or American???

As some of you know, Rahul and I discuss the age old question of how you respond to "What nationality are you?" "Where are you from?" "Are you Indian?". Rahul (guy who hung an American flag in his dorm room freshman year) of course responds with total "American". I, on the other hand, say "Indian".

Well we have been asked some form of this question several times. Many Greeks have been to India and we've had some great conversations with them about it.

Athens has many Indians and Pakistani residents. As Rahul says...Indians go where the business is!

You can imagine when someone asks us what we are....the person who answers first (Rahul or I) gets to set the stage.

One night at dinner in Athens we were asked this question by our waiter to which Rahul promptly responded "American". I did not want to start a heated discussion about this so I let it pass.....

30 mins into dinner a man is running down the street chased by another waiter from a different restaurant. Our waiter proceeds to tell us that the man has stolen something and got away. He continues to talk about how "these Pakistanis and Indians come to Greece and they steal from the tourists". As the waiter walks away...I turn to Rahul and say...it's a good thing you said we were "American"....

This blog blows. Can you guys write about something related to Greece? Also, I would also answer American- especially when you're abroad. But Euros are usually so stupid they get confused and then they ask you, no for real, where are you from? Then I say Michigan. Eventually you have to cough it up and say your parents are from India.
